2 minutes…Well… That was fast…
I got the new iMac for Christmas and let me tell you I love it! It’s so fast and thin and the screen is just amazing even though it isn’t retina and the Fusion drive just makes it a powerhouse. So let’s get started with the review shall we.
The Design of the iMac is wonderful. The iMac is so thin it is basically a MacBook air in a desktop. Yes at the back there is a little but of a push out but you won’t care and you won’t even see it. As you can see I have a SuperDrive connected to my iMac for the use of X-PLANE so I don’t need to buy the $30 USB stick and I don’t have a computer with a DVD drive anymore. Honestly though if this is your first Mac you won’t need it. Everything you need is now download only I just don’t want to pay the extra money to get iWork again so I have a disk drive. Back to the screen though it is amazing. I am running the 21.5 inch 1920 x 1080 and it is amazing. I love it really. It doesn’t matter that it isn’t retina display because it is so high deff you won’t care. The iMac doesn’t take very space and comes with the wireless keyboard and mouse so really you may only have one cord which is the power cord as you can do everything really wirelessly now.
The performance of the new iMac is insane. Especially with the Fusion Drive and 16GB of RAM. Everything flies! I knew the iMac would be fast but I never knew this fast! The iMac comes standard with 1TB Of disk space which can be upgraded to a 1TB fusion drive and 8 GB of RAM which can be upgraded to 16GB of RAM (21.5 inch). I honestly can’t explain how fast this is in words you need to go and use the computer for yourself.
The New iMac comes with Apple’s latest and greatest OS X Mountain Lion. Instead of doing the full review of that I will let you read the full review here.
The 2012 iMac is the desktop computer for someone who wants things done fast and smoothly. The iMac delivers in speed and has a wonderful screen and beautiful design. The iMac gets rid of the extra cords you will see with other desktop computers and comes with it’s own wireless keyboard and magic mouse and or trackpad. The iMac may be a little more expensive than other desktop’s out there but the performance and operating system make up for it. Remember you can also run windows using bootcamp to take advantage of the old apps you may have that are windows only. Overall the new iMac is a very amazing computer and is a must have for anyone who wants a very powerful desktop.
Santa is coming about to deliver us all the Apple goodies for being good this year. Fortunately for us there are ways to track Santa’s flight around the world with your Mac or iPad/iPhone.
For iOS you can use the Google Earth app to track Santa. Simply swipe up and hit the Santa Icon and then Google Earth will follow santa on your iPhone or iPad!
Another option for you is to use the NORAD Santa app. Bringing you a Santa tracker and some games within the App as you watch Santa deliver presents around the world.
For your Mac all of this can be accessed through the web. All you need to do to track Santa using Google is go to this link. The website also has games.
You can also go to the NORAD Santa website and track him by following this link. Yes there is games here too.
Merry Christmas From Matthew Jagiela and Apples-Genius.
After being delayed for a month iTunes 11 is now available to download. It is much better I can tell you and I downloaded it 2 minutes ago. So go get updating from the App Store or the Apple iTunes download page.
It is that time again where we get to see that magical new device rumored for oh so long come into the wild. Today Apple is expected to announce the iPad Mini, new iMac, and retina 13 inch MacBook Pro. To follow the event you can use our twitter widget to the side (or use this link) or eventually when I can I will start posting on the site. Also you can use the Apple TV to stream the event but there is no word if you will be able to do that from the Mac, iPad, or iPhone yet.
I am late on this yes but I haven’t been feeling well if you follow my twitter so stick with me here.
The new iPad mini is set to be announced soon. Actually October 23rd according to many sources and it is actually what you think it is a smaller version of the iPad. There is no say if the iPad mini is going to have a retina display but you will have a 7inch display for your viewing pleasure. Also of course you will have the new lightning connector currently shipping with the new iPods and iPhones. Of course the new iPad Mini will have LTE support much like it’s big brother but will run you some extra cash for the extra antennas. Of course if you want the wifi one you can always pick that one up for a lower price.
Along with the notorious iPad Mini rumored ever sense the iPad first came out we should see a 13inch retina MacBook Pro. We saw the first retina MacBook Pro come out a couple of months ago and it has a gorgeous screen USB 3.0 and a new thinner DVD-less design sort of like the MacBook Air. The MacBook Air is being worked on at Apple and if we don’t see it with the new Pros then we are going to have to wait till the summer.
So both of these devices are expected to make their way into the official world on October 23rd and when they go on sale is anyone’s guess.
Apple released Mac OS X 10.8.1 to developers today. I have not seen anything different with the new beta builds but they could be waiting to implement iOS 6 features till closer to the release of iOS 6.
Today is the day where you can finally get your hands on the newest greatest version of Mac Software, OS X Mountain Lion. Fortunatly I have had the software ever sense it was announced so I am going to tell you what’s good and bad. So lets get started.
One of the things that first surfaced when iMessage was announced in iOS 5 is when was it going to be implemented into the Mac. Well mountain Lion brings that functionality. Messages replaces iChat but still has all the same features just with the addition of having all your conversations in one window and having the ability to send iMessages to every iOS 5+ device. Remember if you have the messages BETA tomorrow it will expire forcing you to upgrade to Mountain Lion for the feature.

One of the things that a student or business man needs is a ToDo list. I will be using this app for the course of the upcoming school year. The reminders app for mac is great. All you need to do is add a what you need to do and when it needs to be done by and your done. You can also tell your reminder to go off when you leave or when you arrive somewhere. However that feature is more for iOS device syncing to your 36/LTE iPad or iPhone not your mac. The cross platforming will make sure you will get what you need to get done, well done. Notifications will also remind you to get done the item you added.

One of the things that bothered me when MobileMe and iCloud syncing came out was that you needed to go into the Mail app to get to them and syncing was TERRIBLE. Not only is the new Notes App easy to use it works very well also! It will sync automatically with iCloud throughout your iCloud enabled devices. You can also add Photos and bullet points into the application! Over all I really like it for Mountain Lion but I would love to see you be able to add photos and bullets to iOS.

One of the things I was really excited about was the addition of airplay mirroring for the Mac in Mountain Lion, however I have an early 2011 2nd GEN Macbook Air as my latest model with no intention of upgrading anytime soon and I was very disappointed that my Mac was not supported. Something with the processor but I bet it will be great for users who could take advantage of it but I have a feeling it will be very lagy for some which is ok. I hope maybe someday Apple will allow older Macs to be able to take advantage of this feature (one can dream).
★★★
I like game center on iOS I really do. I think that when Game Center for the mac get’s applications that are ready for it then it will be amazing. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to see how good it is so I can’t really give it a star count but I will be able to give it a rating when I get some apps that support it but I think it is going very far and will have an impact on Mac gaming.
iCloud storage was teased about a year ago and we never got it. However in Mountain Lion they gave it to the text edit app. Hopefully soon enough if not tomorrow they will update iWork so we can start having data throughout our devices. I can say across Macs with text edit iCloud storage worked very well for me though and I can’t wait to see it get into iWork so I can have my documents everywhere I go.
★★★★
One of the things that I really like about mountain lion is the notifications and the notification center. Taken from iOS all you need to do to access notification center is take to fingers and slide them from the very right of your trackpad and swipe left or hit the notification button in the top right of the screen! You can also hit the tweet button and send a tweet to twitter and eventually to Facebook!

x11 is used by many popular cross platform conversions from Windows. One of the most popular applications being GIMP. One of the thing’s Apple has done is totally removed X11 from Mac so GIMP and other applications that use x11 will not work and will have to be written natively unless there is a work around.
NO STARS
One of the things Apple added for security in Mountain Lion is Gate Keeper and new security measurements. From now on your Mac running Mountain Lion will check with Apple daily for security updates. Also with Gate Keeper you can only allow App store Apps, signed Apps from registered development companies, or software from anywhere. It is only ok because it shows that the Mac may start to be restricted from outside developers eventually but overall I like how Apple is handling security with this.
★★★★
Mountain Lion is the best operating system Apple has released for the Mac so far and with software updates coming to use many of the new features some we don’t even know about will make the entire OS better. For only $20 it is a great upgrade for your Mac as you will have security, new features, and even more. However if you want to upgrade but one of these features is a deal breaker later today I will have a video on how to make another disk partition for Mountain Lion and can keep your current OS.
Final Score ★★★★
Apple has just posted it’s Mountain Lion Golden Master seed to developers. If you are a paid developer you can pick up the golden master seed. Now where is iOS 6 beta 3?
