Why Google Now Drains Your Battery

There has been complaints recently after Google Now came to the iPhone that the battery life has been awful. While google denies the fact that Now drains the battery it actually does but not by the app itself you could say.

So how does it drain your battery? Well by always using your location. You’ll notice if you have Now enabled you have the little location marker always on. That’s because now always needs your exact location to run. Using the GPS uses battery and that’s what has been killing if.

How do you fix it though? Well that’s something if you use Google Now on a regular basis you might not be so happy about. To save your battery you basically have to disable now by turning the app “google” off in location services. This will render now useless because the app needs your location to work.

So really google lied in saying Now doesn’t drain battery but it’s because the app itself needs something that drains the battery to work. Currently I have google in my location disabled allowing me to get a long battery life. Try it if you want a longer battery instead of the app.

WWDC 2013 Set For June 10-14

wwdc13-about-main_2xApple announced earlier today that WWDC 2013 will be happening from June 10th to the 14th. Tickets will be available for purchase tomorrow at 10 AM PDT (3 PM EST). The event will show all of us iOS 7 and Mac 10.9:

Apple To Give iOS 7 A Major UI Change

iOS7

iOS (previously known as iPhone OS) was what made the iPhone the best of the best back when it was announced in 2007. Sadly though it has gone untouched in the sense you could take an original iPhone out of the box and the whole thing would look almost exactly similar. There would be changes to Apps and to functionality (including the app store) but it would look almost exactly the same with the grid of icons.

That however may be coming to an end. Earlier this year Scott Forestall in charge of iOS development was fired and the prestige Jony Ive took over. There is a sense that Jony is going to get rid of some of the texture we see in apps such as the calendar and contacts and mold them to a more aluminum based design. What else will be done in the operating system is yet to discovered but I have hopes for the next iOS version. iOS 7 is expected to be revealed sometime in the summer with the next iPhone following it.

How to follow Santa on your Mac or iOS Device

Santa is coming about to deliver us all the Apple goodies for being good this year. Fortunately for us there are ways to track Santa’s flight around the world with your Mac or iPad/iPhone.

For iOS you can use the Google Earth app to track Santa. Simply swipe up and hit the Santa Icon and then Google Earth will follow santa on your iPhone or iPad!

Another option for you is to use the NORAD Santa app. Bringing you a Santa tracker and some games within the App as you watch Santa deliver presents around the world.

For your Mac all of this can be accessed through the web. All you need to do to track Santa using Google is go to this link. The website also has games.

You can also go to the NORAD Santa website and track him by following this link. Yes there is games here too.

AT&T loosens up, allows FaceTime on LTE For most

AT&T is famous for annoying their customers with iPhones. At the launch of iOS 6 AT&T made it so only members with a shared data plan would be able to use FaceTime off 4G. It seems AT&T has learned that was a reason many people were leaving their network for Verizon and will make it so anyone without an unlimited data plan can use FaceTime over cellular.

Of course it says LTE device meaning iPad 3,4 and iPhone 5 customers exclusively with the upcoming LTE iPad mini as well. It says LTE models but that doesn’t necessarily mean that it will not run off of AT&T 4G hspa+ networks as LTE doesn’t cover very many places. This will be available in the next 8 to 10

This means users with an LTE enabled device running on AT&T will be able to FaceTime on cellular data as long as you don’t have an unlimited data plan.

FlashBack Friday Part 2: Apple’s Past iPhone Event Invitations

With the iPhone Event invitations out for Wednesday I thought it would be cool to look at the past iPhone and iOS invitations.

WWDC 2007: The Original iPhone

The Original iPhone will always reign to me as the best iPhone. Not as far as specs go but with design. I feel the best design for the iPhone was the aluminum brushed with plastic we all saw at WWDC in 2007.I got one last year of eBay and yes I do still use it. As far as updates go the iPhone was killed at 3.1.3 but has not been forgotten.

WWDC 2008: iPhone 3G and the App Store

If you were like me the original iPhone was to expensive when it first launched at 500 dollars for the low model. Therfor you were waiting for the next generation to come quickly and hopefully with a lower price tag. When Steve Jobs told us all about the iPhone 3G and the App Store I went crazy! The iPhone 3G was my first iPhone and I still have one with me. The iPhone 3G was killed at iOS 4.2.

iPhone OS 3.0 Event

The iPhone OS 3.0 event brought the world iPhone OS 3.0. To me the event was not as impressive as I would have liked but was still okay. Right around then I started to get interested in Apple.

WWDC 2009: The iPhone 3Gs

At WWDC 2009 the world was given the iPhone 3Gs that is still around with us for probably only a few weeks now. The 3Gs brought a faster processor and video recording to the iPhone.

WWDC 2010: iPhone 4 iOS 4

WWDC brought us the iPhone 4 which was famously bought by Gizmodo and leaked on the internet before the initial launch. The form is still being used in iPhone’s today and will be brought probably to the next iPhone as well with some added features. iOS 4 brought folders and multitasking to the world of iOS.

Lets Talk iPhone: iPhone 4s

The famous let’s talk iPhone event was the last iPhone event before Steve Job’s passed away. The event was supposed to be home to the iPhone 5 but we got the 4s instead with Siri.

September 12: iOS 6 and iPhone 5
